Luisa Rivera

I paint predominantly on paper, using water-based media like watercolour, gouache, and acrylic. The female figure is at the heart of my works, often intertwined with the natural world, exploring the relationship with the environment and the body through multiple layers of interpretation.
I employ a figurative visual language that conveys a sense of intimacy and solitude, generating scenes where the boundaries between the self and the world are blurred in order to create an indeterminate territory. Influenced by my upbringing in Chile and my interest in Latin American culture, I draw on storytelling in order to create narratives, integrating elements of magical realism to convey uncanny atmospheres.

Using the same visual language and materials, I’ve expanded my practice to other artistic projects, often connected to my feminist and ecological activism as well as my Latin American identity. These works include book illustration, album covers, street art, among others.
