There is a tension between the overtly celebratory, joyous aspects of my paintings and darker narratives that I’m thinking about when I make the work. Colour acts as a device for enticement and the lush, botanical elements convey a sense of freedom and
otherworldliness. The places I depict are often overgrown wildernesses and represent abandonment and potential entrapment. Perceptions of beauty, ideas around memory and loss, internal narratives, forms that relate to the body, life cycles and our changing
environment – these are all underlying themes that I explore through the motifs of my visual language.
