PELZ
Paula Pelz is the alter ego identity of the painter Jan-Hendrik Pelz.
"Paula, my feminine side gave me the freedom to work authentically and freely. "Paula" is, so to speak, my spectrum of possibilities in life and in art in order to develop myself as best as possible
In 2019, a year before the corona pandemic, Pelz withdrew to paint a portrait in the same format every day. The result was 365 oil paintings portraying people Pelz knew.
Pelz has studied at The Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart under Prof Christian Jankowski from 2007 to 2015. In 2011, he completed an Erasmus scholarship at the FHNW Academy of Fine Arts in Basel, Switzerland. He was awarded the title of master student in 2018. He currently works in the fields of painting, installation, conceptual and video art.
Jan-Hendrik Pelz has taken part in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. Among others, he has presented his works in New York / USA, Bogotà / Colombia and the Istanbul Biennial in Turkey.
In 2020, he was awarded the 16th VR Bank Art Prize. Among other things, he received the scholarship from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Mediaand the scholarship from the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts BW-Germany.
