Hutchins is a 18 year old portrait and figurative artist living in the West Midlands, exploring mostly mixed media.

"I can’t pin down exactly where I gather inspiration -people watching can be a great source and I find that, even occasionally, advertisements, or imagery in lyrics can be valuable to work into compositions. I usually work in bursts and rarely plan my images. If I’m working on a set composition, I usually will find myself subverting the form along the way -one way or another. It seems to me the imagination provides the necessary details and character needed to illuminate a piece. "

The two pieces featuring in this open call exhibition were completed in 2021. At this point Carmen had become more disciplined in her approach to art.

"Changing routine brought on by the pandemic and an epilepsy diagnosis providing me with an unexpected impetus".
